Photo editing.

For ages now I have wanted to be able to edit my photos more but have never really know what editing software to buy or how to go about it. At our family picnic on Saturday I was chatting to my cousin and her husband has just bought Photoshop Elements 7 so I decided to download the trial version and give it a go. I think I need to buy one of those books for dummies as it took me ages to figure our how to do this!! Anyway I am so pleased with the results.

Rebecca at my cousins wedding back in 2004. The rose looks almost too red but I haven't changed the colour at all!

I absolutely love this photo of Emily and have scrapped it quite a few time already but I think it will be being scrapped again!! She really has got the most amazing blue eyes.

Passport

We spent the day at Adventure Wonderland on Monday and it just happened to be right near Hobby Craft!! I very very rarely get to actually see stash so it is a real treat to go into a bricks and mortar shop. I have to say that I don't usually find much in Hobby Craft but this time I founds loads! I have been looking a the MM Passport range since it came out and have seen some lovely layouts created using the range and HC just happened to have most of it in their sale. It wasn't reduced by much but I don't need much encouragement, I had to have the embellishment box as it had a stamp in it with HOng Kong written on it. I also bought some lovely papermania alpha stamps for £4.99 which I thought was a real bargin.

Room with a view

Thought I would blog another layout that I created with Sarahs cards July kit, this photo has been waiting to be scrapped for ages but as I don't seem to buy much yellow paper it has been left in the box of photos. I just love using my flower punches, I think I have used them on nearly all my layouts recently although I have just bought a gorgeous martha stewart butterfly punch from Sarah and I think that it will become just as well used!!

We had our annual family picnic on Saturday, we first met in 1978 when we all made our way to Bournemouth and then hired a coach to take us from there to the New Forest, we have been meeting in the same spot every year since!! It is a day that I really look forward as it is often the only time that I get to see some of my relatives and it is lovely to catch up with everyone and meet the new additions to the family. We were slightly down on numbers this year with only 35 but we still had a really great day and the sun actually shone. I took lots of photos as usual and got this one of the girls.

First week of the holidays

Well the first week of the summer holidays are nearly over and today was the first day that we really saw any sunshine!!!
Emily let me do her hair the other day and even take a photo of her in the garden and it didn't cost me anything...bless her. She has the most beautiful hair but like most teenagers she hates it, she is different from all her friends as she has got red hair which is very curly but so so gorgeous!!

Rebecca seems to have found a new passion for cookery, definitley not something that she gets from me! When I came home from work on Tuesday she had cooked the tea and made a wonderful cheesecake. She is definitley a talanted little chef.
When we went to Legoland one of Rebeccas favourite attractions was the driving school, the kids had to sit through a road safety lesson and then were let loose on the road in their little cars. It was hilarious watching them driving around performing all sorts of illegal manavourers yet they all passed and gained their licenses.
I wanted this layout to be a bit of fun so added the roads and little cars, I just loved these papers by scenic route. They used to be my fave manufacturer but don't seem to have used them so much lately.
I did this layout a little while ago using Sarahs Cards July kit, she always manages to put together such fab kits but this one has got to be my favourite! Full of October Afternoon papers which are just yummy. I was inspired by a layout in scrapbook trends to take the photo like this and have since decided that it is going to be a yearly occurrance.

Hong Kong part 2

Thought I would post the second installment of our Hong Kong trip, I spent ages the other day choosing what photos to get developed. I finally narrowed it down to 208 so lots of scrapping material!! Here are a few of the last few days of our holiday.
On the Wednesday we caught the ferry across to Macau which used to belong to the Portuguese until 1999 (I think) when it was handed back to the Chinese, the buildings were lovely very different from Hong Kong. It was a really really hot day and we somehow managed to get ourselves lost. I really struggled as I had been up for most of the Tuesday night unwell so started the day dehydrated and tired. I kept coming over all faint and having to sit down which was a shame. Still a really enjoyable day though.

This was one of many shops selling meats, the front of this display is out on the street and bearing in mind it was mega hot I didn't fancy eating any of this!!

Me at the ruin of St Pauls, it was literally just the front of the church that was left standing.

I just had to take a photo of these electric cables, I don't think they are big of health and safety in Macau!!

The view from our hotel when we got back from macau, the first day where the sky was clear blue sky. It was such a breathtaking view, I was really sad to leave it.

On Thursday we had a great day, we started off with a bit of shopping at the harbour View shopping centre, it was set right on the edge of the harbour and the views from it were amazing. They definiely like their designer shops over there all a bit out of my price range!! Had to have a photo taken in this little armchair though :)

After shopping we went to Kowloon park, it was a lovely green space in amidst the tower blocks. The little turtles were so cute. After our walk around Kowloon we decided to go for a foot massage, it was soooooo relaxing I just wish we had had more time as I would have loved a back and shoulder massage.
A junk in Hong Kong harbour, quite a sight especially when we saw them at night.

The view from the Harbour View shopping centre!!!
Well that is the end of my holiday photos, couldn't bore you with all 208 that I choose. I don't usually scrap many holiday snaps but I am really looking forward to creating some pages with these photos. It really was an amazing holiday and would defiitley recommend it to anyone :)

A Blooming Challange

The team that I am in on UKScrappers volunteered to set the challange for next week, we all decided to keep it quite simple so we choose 3 things to include on the layout.
1. Something that you love
2. Recycle something
3. Use pearls

Justin took this photo of Emily and I back in May, Emily would only have it done because it was my birthday!! Anyway I loved the result so it had to be scrapped.

The papers are by My Minds Eye....again!! I seem to be really drawn to their ranges at the moment there seems to be such a variety of colours and patterns all of which are right up my street!! I also had a bit of a shop in Crafty Stash and bought some gorgeous prima flowers, now I don't usually do flowers but these ones are really lovely.

Amazing Holiday!!

Well what can I say, Hong Kong is an amazing place!! We have had an amazing week away and seen some amazing sights.
On on our arrival at the hotel this is the view we were greeted with in our room, it was breathtaking. The photo doesn't really show it off properly as it was dark outside.

The view from our window on the plane.

On our first day we caught the star ferry across the harbour to Hong Kong Island and then caught a bus to Aberdeen. It was fascinating just looking at the surroundings on our way there, so different from home. Aberdeen used to be a little fishing village, we took a ride on a sanpan around the harbour which was well timed as the heavens opened and it absolutely poured!! We went for lunch on the Jumbo floating restaurant, I expected the inside to be a bit like a giant canteen but it was really plush and the food was lovely.

After going to Aberdeen we caught another bus to Stanley, the journey there was rather hairy!! We had a lovely walk around the town and then the market where i picked up a few little pressies for the girls. The sky started to get very dark and then the heavens opened again but this time even heavier!! We were going to find a bus back but decided to pile into a taxi quickley to get out of the rain.

Day 2.
It was really sunny when we got up so decided to go up to the peak, we caught the ferry across again and then took the escalators up to the mid levels, they were quite weird but a great idea. basically they are escalators that are outside that take you up the hillside on hong Kong Island. The views from the peak were absolutley stunning.

Inside the peak building to get up to the top you had to use more escalators again with amazing views!!

Health and safety gone mad!

Day 3.
This was my favourite day. We got the MTR to Lantau Island and then caught the cable car up to the giant buddha. The views from the car were breathtaking and I wasn't as nervous about the height as I had thought I would be.

Justin and I at the foot of the Buddha.

From the Buddha we walked to the Wisdom Path, it was so tranquil there it was beautiful.

In the little shopping area there was a shop that sold nothing but chop sticks. Justin bought a pair for himself and some for Rebecca, it wasn't until I had taken two photos of all the chopsticks that I saw the sign that said "no photographs"....oops!!

The view from our cable car on the way down.

When we got back down from the Buddha we decided to go to a small fishing village called Tai O, we tried to find a ferry to take us there but ended up in a taxi which was actually really interesting as we saw alot more of the island and the driver pointed out a few areas of interest.
The village was fascinating, all the little houses were built on stilts.

One of the shops in Tai O selling dried fish. It was really something walking down the narrow streets and seeing how they lived there everyday lives.

We did manage to find the ferry to take us home so we saw a different side of the Island.

I won't bore you with anymore photos until next time!!!

Hong Kong here we come!!

Last post before our holiday starts tomorrow, I am getting quite nervous about leaving the girls I know they will be ok but I know I am going to struggle leaving them.
I am so excited about the hotel that we are staying in, it has got amazing views over Hong Kong harbour and at night a lot of the buildings are lit up. Justin booked a harbour view room as a treat for me bless him.

The amazing view from the hotel!

I don't think our room will be quite this posh!!

TFL and I hope I don't bore you with my stories when we get back!
